TJX Companies Latest Target of Class Action Suits Stemming from Security Breach

“TJX Companies, Inc., the parent company of clothing retailers TJ Maxx and Marshall's, disclosed on January 17, 2007, that it had been victimized by computer hackers who unlawfully accessed the portion of TJX's network that handles credit and debit card transactions, and stole at least some customer information. In the ensuing two weeks, TJX was hit with a spate of class action lawsuits filed in various jurisdictions, including federal district court in Massachusetts, where TJX is headquartered. The complaints generally allege that TJX was negligent in failing to implement security measures in keeping with PCI standards imposed by credit card issuers. The New Hampshire Attorney General's office also announced it was investigating the breach. TJX issued public statements reiterating its commitment to security, noting that it had hired computer security experts to bolster its protection in the wake of the incident”

Consider a comprehensive IT security audit as the first necessary step to risk mitigation. NENG has ten years experience successfully protecting businesses with sensitive data from loss. If TJX, and Staples with their large IT staffs are vulnerable then small businesses clearly need objective, experienced, independent security professionals like NENG to assure full ongoing protection.
